Install WordPress without One-click install

For those who do not have any One-Click installation tool, installing WordPress is a little technical. This article will instruct you on how to do this. I’m not going to cover how to setup a web server or any kind of file-transfer server in this article.

To start with, you ofcourse need to download WordPress. Then, you will need to extract the compressed archive you have downloaded, which I’ll assume you know how to do.

Next, open wp-config-sample.php in a text editor (e.g. Notepad or Gedit) and save it as wp-config.php, and then modify the following lines:

find

define('DB_NAME', 'database_name_here');

and replace ‘database_name_here’ with the name of your database, but be sure to keep the single quotes.

Find

define('DB_USER', 'username_here');

and replace ‘username_here’ with the username to your database.

Find

define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password_here');

and replace ‘password_here’ with the password to your database.

And finally, if you’re database is not on the same server as your site files (which I doubt), find

define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');

and replace ‘localhost’ with the correct location of your database server.

Now, make sure WordPress is located in the proper location under your web server. Now, if your web server is setup properly, you can access WordPress to the setup of your site using your web browser.
